2017....

2017, How is it April already??

This year is simply whizzing by! I haven’t written a blog post in ages and I’ve so much to tell you!

So, to start! Last time I wrote, I had just become a finalist in the South West Wedding Awards. The finals evening was on January 27th, at a very lovely event at The Holiday Inn. I got my glad rags on and joined a whole host of amazing suppliers from across Dorset, Somerset, Devon & Cornwall.

Happily surrounded by the best of the best, I waited patiently for the Floral Designer section. Up against eight other amazing florists from all areas, I was SO thrilled to be announced as the Winner!!! 

Huge congratulations goes to the other amazing winners and runners up, including the amazing Cut Me Off a Slice, Freckle Photography & Rapture Hair & Beauty. There were so many fantastic finalists too, Te Amo Bride, The Wedding Company, Ailsa Munro and Stuart Brampton, to name just a  few – all of whom more than deserved their accolade.

An award is now proudly sitting on my front desk, which leads me to another story!

Last September, I came to view a new build studio in Estover. My business is ‘flourishing’(excuse the pun!) and I as I grow, I need more space.

In December, I signed on the dotted line and proudly purchased Number 2, Dark Lake Park.

As I sit here writing this, I am surrounded by pretty flowers, looking out over a gorgeous view. 

That makes it sound like I just moved in! Trust me, the last three months have been super hard work!! The studio was just a shell – no ceilings on either floor, no electric, no water. With huge thanks to my amazing family, I am now happily settled in downstairs, and very close to finishing upstairs too!

Huge plans lie ahead. The upstairs area is going to be a meeting area, for all my lovely couples and families to come and visit me and discuss their flowery requirements.

I’ll also be holding all my workshops from here!

There are also now a whole list of workshops for you to book onto on my website, as well as a new Flower Club, which I am very excited to get up and running from June this year.

Mother’s Day this year was my best ever! Settled into my new surroundings was a blessing, as I had SO many orders and plenty of space to make them all! A massive amount of new and loyal customers supported me for the busiest weekend of the year, making over 110 bouquets in just two days! Not bad for one pair of hands!

The list of plans for 2017 is quite long, and I’ll keep you all updated as and when! You can’t run before you can walk after all,

Creative Collective Magic

Sunday 15th May saw the first of the Creative Collective Wedding Fairs at Ocean Studios. There are going to be many a blog post about this event because it was so awesome! But I think everyone's view of the day will be slightly different, and I wanted to share mine.

Over the years I have attended many wedding fairs, I pay for a space, a box or a table. I do my very best to fill my assigned area, be different and make my space stand out from the rest. It works, and I get bookings from lovely couples that I meet.

With the vision of lovely Danni, owner of fabulous stationary and styling company Faithful Designs and The Wed Hub, this Sunday was going to be different. Wherever possible, Danni encouraged us to not have a table, to show our creative side and work with the space we had to make this wedding show unique. 

I borrowed bits and bobs from friends and with my van full of a everything from peonies to suitcases, daisies to wooden crates, I was off!

The most amazing empty space that is Ocean Studios was filled with every Brides dream, from rings to dresses, bouquets and stationary. It was incredible to see this space filled with fantastic suppliers and lovely couples. 

My neighbouring stands included the very talented Dave Crocker, who creates a unique wedding painting of your day. Certainly worth speaking to Dave if you have ideas, he is so open to new ideas.

Danni herself out did us all on the display stakes! Bringing literally everything including the settee!! her stand was amazing!

The super lovely Mrs Jutson was just down the row, promoting her stunning wedding photography portfolio. Louise Jutson is an amazing photographer, and so enthusiastic about her work. I've been lucky enough to have my work photographed by her in the past, and, having seen her wedding portfolio she captures the moment perfectly. Louise is also very much promoting the album. I am so behind this idea! Photographs of your special day are appreciated so much more in a stunning book than on a memory stick!

Tegen jewellery brought along some of her amazing pieces, all of which certainly caught my eye. I love the idea of buying a unique precious wedding ring that you know no one else is going to have.

Aisla Munro works wonders with a needle and thread! I have never seen such stunning handmade dresses. I have seen Aislas work before, but only in pictures, and this weekend I saw several of her pieces. My lovely bride from a wedding this weekend wore a piece by Aisla, and I also got to see stunning dresses displayed on Sunday, they are truly a work of art. 

Jayne brought along some amazing pieces from Audrey & Rose, which caught the eye of my inner magpie all day with their stunning sparkles! 

Downstairs was filled with lovely suppliers too! 

Katy Short displayed her amazing talents as a make up artist for the first time at a wedding fair. This lady works wonders with a makeup brush! 

The lovely Te Amo Brides brought along their fabulous new suit collection. Centrepiece cakes filled her space with stunning designs and Anon Designs brought along their fantastically unique stationary.

Without doubt, this was one of the best shows I have been too. The suppliers were lovely to chat to, and the couples that came along were inspired by what they saw. The relaxed, friendly atmosphere gave people the chance to wander and chat freely. 

The Creative Collective is magically unique, and I am thrilled to have been part of the first one!

You're engaged!

Firstly, huge congratulations, this is a very exciting time!

There is so much to plan, all your ideas to write down and research and, over the next few months, I’m sure you will read through a mountain of magazines telling you what to do and when.
As a florist, flowers will always be high on my list of things to plan, but for many couples, they are often the last thing on the list. Some brides tell me that they were dreading choosing flowers or thought it would be the hardest part. I always say it should be one of the best bits!

Flowers can really tie everything together, and they can certainly finish off a room.
Here are some tips to make your wedding flower planning that bit easier..

Twelve months to go… 
– Make a list of all the flowers you need, and also of any extra bits you would love.
– Gather some ideas of flowers you like and colour schemes that you think would fit with your wedding.
– Grab some flower magazines and if you can, set up a Pinterest board of ideas you love.
– Ask recently married friends for florist recommendations, pick up leaflets at wedding fairs and Google florists in your local area.
– Email florists with a list of what you would like and ask for a rough quote.
Nine months to go…
– Pick two florists from your emails and arrange to meet up with them. Take along a swatch of bridesmaids material, pictures that you have collected and anything else you think might help the florist. Ask for a quotation in writing, checking that there are no hidden costs with set up fees or delivery charges.
– Book your favourite florist, the one you feel most confident with, that may not necessarily be the cheapest one. You will probably need to pay a deposit to secure the day. Ask for a confirmation in writing.

Five months to go…
– Arrange another meeting with your florist. Go through the finer details of your flowers, numbers of buttonholes, corsages and table decorations if you know them. If you would like your florist to label buttonholes, now is the time to give them names of Groomsmen etc.
– If your florist isn’t familiar with your venue, perhaps arrange to meet them there.
– Ask for a final quote.
One month to go… 
– Contact your florist and confirm details of times and addresses for deliveries on your wedding day. Most florists will set up two-three hours before your ceremony time, depending on how much there is to do.
– Make sure your florist has phone numbers for you, your Groom and another person on your wedding day, just in case.
– Check when your final balance is due, most florists ask for the balance around two weeks before the wedding.
A few days before…
– Give your florist a quick ring to make sure everything has arrived ok and there are no problems.
– Check what time your florist will be arriving on your wedding day.

Your big day…
– Once your florist has delivered your flowers, try and keep them as cool as possible.
– If your flowers have arrived in water, dry the stems around half an hour before you are going to carry them to your ceremony.

Our next wedding fair is Sunday 24th January at Plymouth Guildhall! Where you will be able to see some of our gorgeous work and see upcoming trends and colour schemes. Catching up with news!

I can’t believe where this year has gone and that it is November tomorrow!

We have had a super year so far, creating flowers for over 55 weddings so far this year, with still more to go before the year is out! We have been extremely lucky to work with some truly lovely couples, allowing us to create for their truly varied wedding themes. Here are just a few snippets…

We have visited some stunning locations throughout the year too, from Honiton to Lostwithiel and most places in between.
Recently, as the wedding season slowly quietens down, we have been closer to home. We recently were extremely lucky to provide flowers for HRH Sophie, Countess of Wessex on her visit to Plymouth, and also just this week, we provided flowers for a visit by Prince Albert II of Monaco.


But, the year is nowhere near over yet!

We are now all turning our minds to Christmas. We are soon going to be creating our online Christmas collection for deliveries across Plymouth, as well as preparing for our upcoming workshops. I have listed dates below and hope that you can join us for one of the fun filled events…

Tuesday 1st December – The start of a three week evening class, where once a week we will create a stunning Christmas display including door garland and advent display!
Friday 4th December – Join us for a inspirational morning of creativity! Create your own beautiful door garland to be the envy of your neighbours!
Saturday 5th December – Your last chance to create a simply stunning door garland with us on this fabulous afternoon workshop

A fabulous day at Langdon Court

Last Sunday 5th July, a small selection of South Devon's finest wedding suppliers came together at Langdon Court Hotel in Wembury, for the hotels annual summer wedding fair.

The day was blessed with gorgeous summer sunshine, which allowed Langdon's stunning gardens to be shown off in all their glory. Presecco and canapés were served throughout the day to steady flow of lovely couples, all eager to discuss their wedding ideas with each of the suppliers.

There was exquisite photography on offer from the talented Martyn Norsworthy of Norsworthy Photography. Norsworthy offer stunning award winning photography for your big day and Martyn has a spectacular portfolio which couples loved looking through. Martyn is holding an open day in his studio next Sunday 19th, which gives a great opportunity for you to talk to him further about what he can offer for your wedding.

Your Big Event were also in attendance o Sunday with the fabulous Andy there to offer advice on entertainment for your special day. Andy is a hugely popular choice so be sure to book quickly in order to avoid disappointment!

In the bar area with myself was Little Lark Cakes. What an absolutely stunning array of wedding cakes! From delicately decorated flowers, to simple white icing and also the currently popular chalkboard look. Little Lark Cakes offer designs to suit every couple, and I honestly couldn't choose my favourite!

Covered in Style had dressed the main reception room at Langdon with a selection of stunning chair covers and sashes. They were also offering fabulous ice creams outside in the gardens - well welcomed on such a hot day!

Langdon Court wedding fair really does give the opportunity for couples to speak more individually with suppliers and get a feel for what they offer.

It was a fabulous day and I have been lucky enough to speak with several couples to arrange meetings already, and, with lots more to speak too, it was a truly successful day!

The mad month of May!

How is it mid June already?!
May was utterly wonderfully hectic! Not only did the summer collection on our website become more popular than I could’ve ever imagined, I managed to whip up flowers for 10 gorgeous weddings!

I have delivered more jugs this month than ever before. The stunning jugs on our webshop have been immensely popular with all ages – being chosen for gifts for both 18th and 80th Birthdays.

May has been weddings galore! With weddings every weekend and weekdays too! We have travelled to the stunning Lantallack Farm in Landrake, to the equally beautiful Boconnoc House near Lostwithiel, and closer to home, we have had weddings at the gorgeous Boringdon Hall and exquisite Langdon Court. Flowers for 10 weddings takes a fair amount of organising, but I have loved every one. Flowers have varied from corals and creams to pinks and vintage purples to crisp white.

This stunning bouquet went to our lovely Bride Rachel, who married Mark at Wembury Church and had their reception at the absolutely breath taking Thorn Gardens.

June is ever so slightly quieter with weddings, but we have not finished for the summer yet, it is simply giving us the chance to meet with lots of lovely new couples who want to talk wedding flowers for the end of this year and for 2016, whilst we are quietly gearing up for 12 more wonderful weddings in July!!

Kerry & Ashley.....

I have been lucky enough to recently receive photos from some of my lovely weddings from 2014, and so I thought I should share them with you!


On Saturday 20th May 2014, I created wedding flowers for a lovely couple, Kerry and Ashley.

Kerry chose a selection of pastel gerbera, hydrangea and roses for her flowers, with buttonholes to compliment for the Groom, Groomsmen and parents.



The couples nine Bridesmaids each wore a beautiful silver dress, and carried bouquets of pastel gerbera and hydrangea to match the beautiful Brides bouquet.

The couple married at Bickleigh Church and their reception followed at St Mellion Hotel, where birdcages and tealights adorned the guest tables and Kerry used her bouquet along with a ‘Mr & Mrs’ sign to decorate the top table.


Kerry and Ashley had the most beautiful theme, and it was lovely to create bouquets using stunning pastel colours that  really complimented each other.  I hope they enjoy their upcoming first anniversary together!

Sunny Spring Weddings!

It seems like forever ago I last wrote a blog post! The time really is passing by so quickly in a flash of gorgeous sunshine and beautiful weddings!
I have travelled quite a few miles since my last blog, from the absolutely beautiful Lantallack in Cornwall, to the superb Deer Park Country Hotel in Honiton. The weddings I have created have ranged from bright sugar pink and blue to subtle cream and plum, and Easter weekend saw a classic mix of coral and ivory flowers at Langdon Court, each one as individual and as beautiful as the next.
You can see a selection of the weddings I have created over the last month on my Facebook page, along with all the lovely comments from followers of the page.

The end of March also saw another hugely successful wedding fair at Langdon Court. The weather wasn’t great but lots of lovely newly engaged couples flocked to this beautiful venue at Wembury to find suppliers and ideas for their own wedding day. I have met with several lovely couples that I met on the day, and still have lots more to see!

On a different note, this week sees the last of my evening classes at Pomphlett Church Hall. This group has grown in numbers each time I run it, and this terms group have been absolutely lovely to teach. Some really stunning and individual work has been produced, and you can really see the improvement over the last six weeks.

We take a break now from our evening classes over the summer, but they will return in the autumn as the evenings draw darker again! Watch out for news on dates on my ‘Workshops‘ page.
The seasons are now changing into the summer and we although the spring flowers are still about, it has been lovely this week to use beautiful local stocks and snapdragons! The online shop will be being updated soon so keep your eyes peeled!

Spring is here!

Valentines Day has gone in a flash of red roses, spring flowers, roses thorns up to my knees and several van loads of deliveries! ❤️ A hectic but lovely day was had and I hope everyone was (and continues to be! ) pleased with their gifts this February 14th.

Another month is over half way through and I can hardly believe that Mothers Day is just around the corner. Sunday 15th March is Mums special day this year and we are already busily planning a sumptuous array of stunning gifts for you to order online or over the phone. Watch this space to see the launch of this stunning range!

Next week sees the start of another wonderful evening class at Pomphlett Church Hall. Starting on Tuesday 24th February, it promises to be another fun filled six week course.

Finally, next week I will be entertaining the ladies of Plymstock Flowers Club on Wednesday evening , with a demonstration based on 'A Florists Year'. All guests welcome at a cost of £5, I hope to see some of you there!

Happy New Year!

Wishing you all a very Happy 2015! I still haven’t quite got used to writing 2015 yet but I’m sure I will soon enough!

 

 What an absolutely outstanding year 2014 was! It was far better than I could’ve ever expected. In my first 12 months running Hannah Burnett Florist, I managed just over 30 weddings, 8 workshops, heaps of bouquets, baskets and arrangements, as well as flowers for many other significant occasions for many different people. I would like to thank all who ordered for your custom and also, say a huge thank you for all those who have been kind enough to write, phone or email after they have received my flowers for whatever occasion to say thank you. It truly does mean a great deal that you have taken the time to show your appreciation.

 

 

2015 is already shaping up to be a truly spectacular year. I have a huge amount of weddings already booked in for this year, with the first one coming up this weekend at the splendid Langdon Court.

 

I do love a good wedding and I absolutely love meeting all the new Brides and Grooms that this time of year brings. If you would like to discuss your wedding flowers, then please do get in touch. I would be delighted to come and meet with you to discuss your ideas, so that we can work together and get the exact look you want for your wedding.

Weddings & Workshops ...

The start of November has been a hectic with evening classes, weddings and lots of day to day floral displays leaving the workshop. Last weekends two weddings were very different. Eleanor and James chose classic whites and purples to decorate the beautiful Langdon Court, whilst Becky & Chris chose bright and vibrant for their stunning wedding at The Horn of Plenty (pictured above).

 

 

 

Christmas seems to be approaching at a very swift pace! Workshops are filling up but there is still time to book yourself on both of my day time courses at Colebrook & Glenholt and also a few spaces on my evening workshop at The Devonport Guildhall . Why not bring a friend or two with you and make it your festive outing?! All materials as well as suitably warming refreshments will be provided! A brilliant time is guaranteed and you get to take home a stunning door garland with you!

Christmas Workshops are filling up!

Christmas is fast approaching and the count down to the biggest date of the year is now in just double figures!

I for one haven’t bought a single present, but I am aware that lots of other people are far more organised than me, and the way my Christmas workshops are becoming booked are proof of that!

Two evening wreath making evening workshops are completely full at The Turtley Corn Mill, which is great news. There are also only a few spaces left at The Devonport Guildhall Candlelit Christmas Workshop which is taking place on Wednesday 3rd December from 7 until 8.30 pm. All materials along with seasonal refreshments will be provided. It is sure to be a fun evening, so if you do fancy coming along, please be sure to book soon!

I am also holding workshops on Friday 5th December at St. Annes Church Hall in Glenholt from 10.30am until 12.30pm and on Saturday 6th December at Colebrook Community Centre from 10am until 12pm. Both workshops cost £25 and include all materials needed to make a stunning door garland, as well as seasonal refreshments! (Although it may be a little early in the day for Mulled Wine!) Please do book to avoid disappointment as these workshops are becoming increasingly popular.

In other news, last Tuesday saw the start of my Evening Workshop! A lovely collection of ladies came along for the first week and I am looking forward to creating seasonal designs with them over the next 9 weeks. Its not too late to join – just get in touch if you would like to come along.

Remembering the summer & looking forward to the winter!

This week has been one to make us realise that summer is well and truly behind us! The evenings seem to be getting longer by the day and it is easy to come home and hibernate in front of the fire….

Perhaps though, we should look at this dark and cold season as a time to get creative and meet new people. Workshops during the autumn and winter months are getting more and more popular. From book clubs to cake decorating, you can do it all on these dreary long evenings! I, of course, suggest getting creative with some beautiful fresh flowers! Not only is it the perfect opportunity to meet like minded friendly flowery sorts and learn a new skill, it also means you can take whatever you create home and brighten up your house for the next week or so – what more could you want? Check out my workshops and classes page to find out what you could come and join.

During the summer months, I have been fortunate enough to meet some lovely suppliers whilst setting up for weddings in various parts of Devon. At the end of August, I met the lovely Simon of Simon Rawling Photography . This week Simon kindly sent me a selection of stunning photos from the wedding and I am thrilled to have them to use on my site and to promote my work.
Receiving beautiful photographs gives me the opportunity to reflect on how lucky I have been to work with such lovely couples this year. It also fills me with enthusiasm for the weddings I still have to do for this year, and with excitement for the new couples I have been meeting with recently to discuss their weddings for next year!

Dates for your diary!

What a busy September it has been! With autumnal mornings and evenings now creeping in, it is the time to be thinking of all the fun that come with this season!
I have a huge range of courses and workshops going on from October right through to December, all with a autumnal or festive feel!

Firstly, just to mention once again that my fabulous, Winter Wonderland Evening Flower Course is starting on Tuesday October 14th from 7pm until 8.30pm. The course is running for 10 weeks taking us right up to Tuesday December 16th. We will start with some beautiful autumn displays, working our way slowly towards Christmas! The cost is £45 for the full course, refreshments are provided, and you will be told what to bring along each week.

I also have four Christmas workshop dates throughout December, starting with the first on Wednesday 3rd December at The Devonport Guildhall. Enjoy learning to create a stunning door garland, as well as a sensational table decoration to leave your table the talk of your family this Christmas! The cost is £30 per person, all materials are provided.

On Friday 5th December, I will be holding a Christmas Wreath Making Workshop at St Anne’s Church Hall in Glenholt, Plymouth. This morning workshop from 10.30 until 12.30 includes everything you need to make a superb Christmas door wreath. Priced at £25 per person, this is sure to be a fun and sociable morning.

On Saturday 6th December, I will be holding a very similar workshop, but this time at Colebrook Community Centre in Plympton. Priced once again at £25 per person, with all materials provided, this will be a lovely morning for those who can’t make a weekday event.
Last but certainly not least, I have teamed up once again with The Turtley Corn Mill in Avonwick to host a Luxury Christmas Wreath Making Workshop. Priced at £30 and including all materials and refreshments, this event will show you how to create a stunning luxury door wreath that will be the envy of your street!

A new season...

With the summer months passing us by so quickly, and weddings coming around every weekend, it is easy to forget that autumn is fast approaching! A visit to my flower wholesaler this morning made me realise that seasons are changing. The mornings and evenings will soon be drawing in, the leaves will be crunching under our feet and nature will be surrounding us with berries and beautiful shades of reds and burnt oranges.

 

I absolutely love when a new season starts. All the flowers arrive back that I haven’t seen for 12 months and renew my enthusiasm for beautiful autumn flowers all over again.

It also means that evening classes are starting again! Hurray! This year they will be based at Oreston Methodist Church Hall and will run from Tuesday 14th October until Tuesday 16th December from 7 until 8.30pm. The cost is just £45 including refreshments.

I am also running a single morning course on Friday 26th September from 11.15 am to 1.15 pm. This course is £20 and all materials and refreshments will be provided. All you need to bring is yourself! Simply call or go to the Workshops and Classes page to book
